Flexible study design
ITDC develops each multimodal data collection program around the project’s location, purpose, travel patterns, and reporting requirements. Counts can be conducted during weekday and weekend periods, school arrival and dismissal, commuter peaks, special events, recreational peak periods, or over multiple consecutive days.
Collection methods
Targeted pathway and crosswalk counts - Video collection units can document pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility activity by direction of travel along sidewalks, trails, bicycle facilities, and marked or unmarked crossings.
Multimodal turning-movement counts - Intersection counts can combine vehicular movements with pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and micromobility activity. Data can be reported in 15-minute intervals and coordinated with the study’s vehicle-classification requirements.
Video-based roadway counts - Video ATR studies can document bicycles, e-scooters, and other custom roadway classifications by direction or lane while also providing vehicular traffic volumes.
Supporting roadway and speed data - Multimodal counts can be coordinated with radar or pneumatic ATR studies to document roadway volumes, vehicle classifications, and speed conditions at crossing or pathway locations.

Quality assurance
Each location is reviewed before deployment to determine the appropriate camera placement, recording period, and field configuration. During installation, ITDC verifies the count location, camera view, recording settings, equipment status, battery life, and storage capacity. Video is reviewed for completeness, and processed data is checked for correct directionality, classification, reporting intervals, and overall reasonableness before delivery.
